Strawberry Peach Sangria

Summer means berry picking and yesterday we were out at Krause Berry Farms picking strawberries!! Taking the kids to do some u-pick berries has become a little family tradition that we started last year. The kids really enjoyed picking the fruit off the bushes, and it was nice to show them were their food comes from that it doesn’t just magically appear in a store.

Our picking doesn’t last too long, we each have a bucket or basket that we fill up, or until the kids start throwing berries at each other or across the row. Then we buy the rest of the berries we need for freezing. I love freezing berries for the year, it’s so much tastier doing it yourself then buying in the store, and it makes the most amazing shakes all year long!

This year we cleaned, cut and froze 16lbs of strawberries, and we will do the same with blueberries in August and raspberries in July. I would also love to do peaches & cherries (my absolute favourite) but I’m not sure we’ll be able to make the trip to the Okanagan this year, maybe next year.

One of my favourite summer strawberry recipes is Strawberry Peach Sangria, a recipe I wanted to share with you! It’s really simple to make and can sit in the fridge for over night (if it lasts that long!).

You need:

– 4oz peach liquor
– 1 bottle dry white wine (I like South African Blougerg – Stellenbosch, it’s nice and it’s cheap! You don’t need an expensive wine to make great sangria!)
– 1 cup orange juice
– 2 cans of club soda (or ginger ale)
– sliced fruit (strawberries, peaches, apples, oranges, lemons, limes, anything you like really!)

Slice your fruit and add it to a pitcher and add peach liquor, and put it in the fridge for an hour. Then add the orange juice, wine and club soda. Enjoy!!
