What is SEO?

Today we are going to answer some of the most basic SEO questions. What is SEO? Why do you need to worry about it? How do you implement it on your website? These are all very common questions that I get when working with clients for the first time.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the things that you can do to your website to make it more searchable by Google and other search engines. You can optimize your website and blog, of course, but you can also optimize your images and Pinterest.

If you’re using your website to get leads, and you want those leads to come from a search engine like google you need to make your website searchable. If your website is not optimized then your ideal clients will not be able to find you in their search results. So it’s important to keep SEO top of mind when you’re designing your website.

How can you implement SEO into your website?

There are a number of strategies that you can do to make your website more search-friendly. However, I recommend that a solid SEO foundation is the best first step when making your website more searchable.

  1. Brainstorm Keywords
  2. Research Keywords
  3. Do a competitive analysis
  4. Create proper titles and tags
  5. Create quality content that’s relevant to your keywords

There are many resources that are available on this topic. Some are much too technical for beginners. So I have created a free Website Review Checklist download for your website usability and SEO, which you can grab below. Also coming soon is the SEO Made Simple guide for photographers (though it’s translated to other industries the examples are specific to photographers). Get on the mailing list to be the first to know when the guide & workbook will be released!
