I’ve worked through multiple waves of SEO changes, platform shifts, and design trends, and what I know for certain is this: clarity, structure, and intentional branding will always outperform something that’s just visually impressive. That’s the lens I bring to every Vancouver website design project I touch.

Here’s something most business owners don’t think about enough: your website might still technically work… but that doesn’t mean it’s still working well.
Your business evolves every year. Your audience changes, your offers shift, your confidence grows, and your brand matures. But if your website hasn’t been updated alongside that growth, there’s a good chance it’s no longer fully supporting where you’re headed.
In this episode of the Brand Unmuted Podcast, we walk through a practical annual website refresh you can do at the start of every year. Not a full redesign, but the maintenance and strategic updates that keep your site aligned with your business.
Here’s what we covered.
Think of this like an oil change for your website. These are the quick checks you should run once a year just to make sure everything is functioning properly.
Throughout the year, you probably tweak copy quickly — adding services, changing CTAs, updating sections. It’s easy for typos or inconsistent messaging to slip in.
So, run through your site with fresh eyes and make sure:
• There are no spelling or grammar mistakes
• Your CTAs clearly tell users what happens next
• Your brand voice feels consistent across all pages
• Your above-the-fold messaging clearly says who you help and how
Also, update your website footer copyright year so visitors know your site is actively maintained.
On the design side, you’ll want to confirm:
• All links and buttons still go to the right place
• Your fonts, colors, and imagery remain consistent
• No new edits have drifted outside brand guidelines
It’s also helpful to check analytics or tools like Hotjar to see where visitors are dropping off. High bounce points often signal confusion or friction.
Updating photos or refreshing stock imagery can also help your site feel current.
SEO basics often get skipped when new pages or posts are added in a hurry. Now’s the time to double-check:
If you wrote posts like “Best Tips for 2025,” update them for the new year so they stay relevant.
Once this maintenance is done, the next step is making sure your website still reflects where your business is going.
Ask yourself:
You’re not redesigning your brand, just making sure your website matches your growth.
If your pricing hasn’t moved but your experience has grown, this is a good time to adjust.
Make sure your pricing supports your income goals and capacity.
Brand photography ages faster than we think. Even small updates in wardrobe, styling, or location can better represent your current brand energy.
Many business owners benefit from one full brand shoot yearly, plus smaller refreshes mid-year.
Small color tweaks or simplifying palettes can make your site feel fresh without a full rebrand.
This is especially helpful if your audience has shifted or expanded.
If you now serve new cities or audiences, update location-specific keywords and blog content to reflect that expansion.
Your website doesn’t need a full redesign every year. But it does need attention.
Small updates compound into big improvements over time, keeping your site aligned with your evolving business.
And if you don’t want to remember all this, we made it easy for you…
